Singapore related-party loan: 2026 margin and correction dates

Apply the 2026 margin and correction dates to each Singapore related-party loan after checking the current IRAS conditions.

A Singapore related-party loan may use the IRAS indicative margin of 1.80% above an appropriate base reference rate in 2026 when the current conditions are met. That figure is not a universal interest rate for every group loan. The parties, loan date, base rate, currency, terms and current transfer-pricing guidance still matter. IRAS also provides specified retrospective treatment and filing dates that need a controlled loan-by-loan review.

Build a Singapore related-party loan population

List every loan, advance, cash-pool balance and other financing arrangement with a related party. Record lender, borrower, relationship, agreement date, drawdowns, currency, principal, term, security, guarantees, repayment, purpose and interest method. Reconcile the list with ledgers, bank records and financial statements.

Do not exclude an arrangement merely because it is called current account, temporary funding or interest free. Classification should follow the actual financing facts and the current IRAS guidance.

Identify the applicable loan category

Separate domestic loans from cross-border loans and identify whether either party is in the business of borrowing and lending. The current IRAS page notes a revised YA 2026 treatment for certain related-party domestic loans entered into on or after 1 January 2025 where neither party is in that business.

Record the date the loan was entered into and any material amendment. A renewal, extension or substantial change may require analysis. Do not apply the newest margin across old and new loans without checking the relevant rule and period.

Select the base reference rate

Identify the rate appropriate to the loan’s currency, period and terms, such as a risk-free reference rate where the guidance applies. Preserve the source, observation date, reset convention and calculation. The 1.80% margin is added to the base; it is not a complete rate by itself.

IRAS no longer publishes indicative margins for new loans using old interbank offered rates. If a legacy arrangement still references one, review the transition and transfer-pricing method instead of attaching the RFR margin mechanically.

Test whether the indicative margin can be used

Read the current conditions and document why the loan falls within them. Compare the actual agreement and conduct with the recorded terms. The parties should account for interest consistently and follow repayment, drawdown and amendment provisions.

Where the indicative margin does not apply or the facts are unusual, perform an arm’s-length analysis supported by reliable comparables and economic reasoning. A group policy or bank quote can inform the work but may not be sufficient on its own.

Recalculate 2026 interest

Build a schedule by drawdown and reset period. Apply the documented base rate and margin to the correct principal and days, then reconcile accrued, invoiced and paid interest. Explain foreign-exchange translation and withholding-tax treatment where relevant.

Compare the result with the accounting entries and tax computation. Preserve original amounts and post any correction through an authorised process. Do not rewrite historical invoices or agreements to make them match the preferred answer.

Review the retrospective option and deadlines

The current IRAS transfer-pricing page states that taxpayers may apply the revised YA 2026 position to specified YAs 2022 to 2025 and may receive a waiver of the section 34E surcharge on those adjustments. It sets a 15 November 2026 deadline for YA 2022 and 28 February 2027 for YAs 2023 to 2025.

Treat these as preparation deadlines, not reasons to file automatically. Model the tax, surcharge, interest, accounting and counterparty effects for each year. Obtain approval and submit only the years supported by the official conditions and complete records.

Prepare the correction file

For each affected year, retain the original return and computation, revised interest schedule, related-party agreement, accounting entries, tax effect and explanation. Coordinate both sides of a domestic loan so the income and expense treatment is consistent where required.

Save the official submission acknowledgement and later assessment. If a submission times out, check status before resending. A private calculation does not complete the correction.

Connect the annual transfer-pricing process

Add the loan schedule to the yearly related-party transaction register and contemporaneous documentation assessment. Monitor new drawdowns, amendments, repayments and rate resets. Assign a finance owner and tax reviewer before year end.

The Singapore transfer-pricing cornerstone covers documentation, deadlines and annual checks. The tax consulting hub connects corporate filing and cross-border topics. This loan guide should remain the narrow operational layer.

Coordinate lender and borrower records

Prepare one agreed term sheet for the tax review showing the principal, currency, dates, base rate, margin, payment schedule and amendments. Ask both entities to reconcile that sheet to their ledgers. Differences in accrued interest, foreign exchange or payment timing should be resolved before either return is finalised.

Where a retrospective adjustment is considered, model both entities and every affected year. A deduction change for the borrower may correspond to an income change for the lender, but residence, losses, withholding tax and accounting treatment can alter the overall result. Do not assess one side in isolation or assume that a surcharge waiver removes every consequence.

Put 15 November 2026 and 28 February 2027 into a controlled calendar with earlier internal cut-offs for data, review, approval and submission. The YA 2022 date is especially close. If evidence is incomplete, escalate the decision rather than filing an unsupported revision to meet an internal target.

After IRAS processes a revision, update both entities’ tax records and preserve the assessment or correspondence. Carry corrected opening balances and interest treatment into the next year’s computation. A one-time correction should improve the continuing loan process rather than remain an isolated tax adjustment.

Use the 1.80% IRAS indicative margin for a Singapore related-party loan only after the category, date and base rate are settled. Complete the retrospective review early enough for the 15 November 2026 and 28 February 2027 dates, and preserve a reconciled record for every correction.
