A post-marriage LTVP evidence handover should give the Singapore citizen sponsor and foreign spouse one current, reviewed file for the formal application. It should not simply reuse the pre-marriage assessment pack.

The handover must show what changed after PMLA, which documents support the current facts and who will review the sponsored submission. Both spouses remain responsible for accurate information.

Confirm that the correct route applies

First, record the Singapore citizen sponsor, foreign spouse, marriage date and place, passport details and current immigration status. Confirm that the application is for a spouse of a Singapore citizen through the current ICA route.

The ICA spouse of a Singapore citizen page states that the Singaporean spouse sponsors the post-marriage LTVP application through the ICA e-Service using Singpass. Marriage does not guarantee approval.

If the relationship, sponsor or status does not match this route, stop and identify the correct official process. Do not adapt another couple’s checklist.

Record the PMLA and Letter of Eligibility

Save the submitted PMLA, outcome and Letter of LTVP Eligibility, if any. Record the date received and the one-year validity period. Confirm that the LTVP application will be submitted within that period if the couple intends to rely on it.

The ICA PMLA advisory notes state that the letter is not an LTVP and does not constitute approval. The foreign spouse must submit a separate LTVP application after legal marriage to seek long-term stay.

Keep lawful stay separate. A PMLA result or pending LTVP application does not extend a visit pass by itself.

Compare current facts with the pre-marriage file

Use a side-by-side list for names, passport, address, employment, income, education, marital history, children, medical information where requested and immigration records. Mark each item as unchanged, changed or newly required.

Explain genuine changes with dates and supporting documents. Do not copy an earlier answer if it is no longer true. Also do not describe a change as an error unless the earlier declaration was inaccurate at the time.

Escalate a material inconsistency before filing. Where legal advice is needed, coordinate with a Singapore law firm with the relevant immigration or family-law speciality.

Build the marriage and identity file

Include the official marriage certificate and identity records required by the current checklist. Check names, dates, document numbers and transliteration across all records.

ICA states that original documents and official translations are required for documents not in English, together with copies ICA can retain. The official page lists accepted translation routes and warns that insufficient documentation may prevent acceptance.

Do not use an informal translation merely because it was accepted for another purpose. Record translator, attestation or notarisation evidence as applicable.

Prepare sponsor and household evidence

Collect the sponsor’s current address, employment, income and other records requested for the application. State the period each document covers and its issue date.

For the foreign spouse, collect the corresponding current records and travel document. If employment or income changed after PMLA, include the new evidence and explanation.

Keep financial evidence complete but proportionate. Do not add private bank or family records that the official process does not request merely to make the file appear stronger.

Check Work Permit marriage approval where relevant

Existing and former Work Permit holders may need approval from the Controller of Work Passes before marrying a Singapore citizen or permanent resident. Record the pass history and MOM outcome where this rule applies.

Do not treat a marriage certificate as proof that the earlier approval requirement was satisfied. If the sequence is unclear, seek advice before making another declaration.

Use the live ICA e-Service and checklist on the filing day. The sponsor should log in personally through Singpass. Advisers should not ask for or retain the sponsor’s credentials.

Before submission, print or save the final review copy where the service permits it. Both spouses should check the declarations, dates and uploaded documents.

Record the submission date, application reference and acknowledgement. Store the filed package securely and limit access to the people handling the case.

Plan for processing without promising a date

The ICA service commitment states an indicative six-week processing period for a spouse of a Singapore citizen who completed PMLA, compared with up to six months without PMLA, provided required documents are submitted and in order.

Treat the period as planning information, not an approval promise. ICA may ask for more information. The couple should monitor the official account and respond through the stated channel.

Keep travel, work authorisation and current stay under their own rules while the application is pending. Avoid irreversible commitments based on an expected decision date.

Close the handover with a shared chronology

Finally, maintain one chronology for PMLA, marriage, LTVP submission, information requests, responses and outcome. Preserve earlier versions instead of editing the history.
