A Dependant’s Pass IPA starts a timed arrival and issuance sequence. Check the sponsor route, entry window, registration deadline and card delivery.
A Dependant’s Pass IPA is approval to enter Singapore and complete issuance. It is not yet the digital or physical pass. Families should check the IPA validity, the main pass holder’s route, travel plans, medical or declaration requirements, Singapore address and any fingerprint deadline before booking the final arrival sequence.
The employer, employment agent, main pass holder or local sponsor then completes the steps assigned to that route. Each dependant has a separate application and timetable.
Read the individual Dependant’s Pass IPA
MOM’s Dependant’s Pass application guide says the IPA is a pre-approved single-entry visa for the foreigner to enter Singapore.
For this reason, MOM generally gives dependants of Employment Pass holders six months from IPA for issuance. Dependants of S Pass holders generally have two months. Other sponsor routes may have different instructions.
The Dependant’s Pass IPA controls the individual case. MOM uses it to state whether the dependant needs a medical examination or declaration. Do not assume that two family members have identical conditions merely because the sponsor filed both applications together.
Check the passport expiry and name against the IPA before travel. If the passport changes, resolve the record before attempting issuance. Keep the IPA copy available for travel and the Singapore process.
Plan arrival around issuance, not hope
In practice, MOM advises families to bring the dependant in only after approval. A visit pass is not a substitute for the approved work-pass-family route, and an extension is not automatic while an application is pending.
Before arrival, prepare the Singapore residential address, local contact details and card delivery address. Identify up to three authorised card recipients where the eService permits it. Make sure the recipient’s identification details and mobile number are accurate.
Keep the passport page showing the arrival date and the current Short-Term Visit Pass or other immigration pass details. Have these ready for the online issuance. The family should also comply with the current entry and travel requirements applying on the arrival date.
Complete issuance while the dependant is in Singapore
At the same time, the dependant must be in Singapore for issuance. The authorised party logs into the relevant MOM service, provides the required information, uploads documents and pays the issuance fee. MOM currently lists a S$225 issuance fee and, where applicable, S$30 for a Multiple Journey Visa.
The file may need the arrival page, completed medical examination form or medical declaration, and the declaration attached to the IPA. Check the letter rather than uploading an outdated form. If the family is waiting for medical results and the visit pass is close to expiry, MOM provides a specific request window and requires the doctor’s memo.
Once MOM issues the pass, it emails a notification letter. The letter permits travel while the card is pending, tells the family whether fingerprint and photo registration applies and normally remains valid for one month. Save it on the dependant’s phone and in the family file.
Follow the registration instruction exactly
As a result, not every dependant needs to register fingerprints and a photo. The notification letter tells the family whether registration applies. For dependants of EP holders, the current deadline is within two weeks after issuance at the Employment Pass Services Centre. Dependants of S Pass holders have one week at MOM Services Centre Hall C.
Make an appointment and bring the original passport, appointment letter, notification letter and a mobile phone with a local number. MOM asks the dependant to download the Singpass and SGWorkPass apps for the registration process.
At registration, MOM captures the fingerprints and photo and registers the dependant for Singpass. The dependant can then access the digital pass through SGWorkPass. If MOM waives registration, follow its instruction for setting up the digital pass.
Track card delivery
For example, MOM delivers the card within five working days after registration and document verification. If MOM does not require registration, the period runs after the document check. An authorised recipient normally receives delivery details at least one working day before delivery.
| Point in the sequence | Record to keep | Timing check |
|---|---|---|
| Approval | Individual IPA letter | Entry and issuance validity |
| Arrival | Passport arrival page and immigration pass | Enough time remains for issuance |
| Issuance | Payment and notification letter | Record the notification validity |
| Registration | Appointment and acknowledgement | Two weeks for EP dependant or one week for S Pass dependant |
| Delivery | Delivery notice and recipient record | Follow up after five working days |
If two delivery attempts fail, MOM directs collection at the relevant service centre. Keep the original passport or digital pass, notification letter and any employer authorisation needed for an authorised collector.
Separate family responsibilities
The employer or agent may handle the online issuance, but the family controls travel, passport availability, address accuracy, appointment attendance and card receipt. Put one person in charge of the shared calendar and keep a separate row for each dependant.
In addition, do not use a sibling’s or spouse’s dates as a proxy. One person may need a medical examination or biometric registration while another does not. The main pass holder’s status and validity also affect the dependant’s pass.
Close the file after the digital pass works
Check the name, FIN, pass type and expiry date in SGWorkPass. Record the physical card delivery and store it securely. Update MOM later if relevant personal details change, and start the renewal calendar well before expiry.
The moving-with-children guide remains the pillar cornerstone. The DP documents and arrival guide covers the application file, while the medical and issuance guide explains the medical decision. The Singapore Immigration and Relocation hub connects related guidance.
For this reason, the move feels complete before the card arrives, but the legal process is not. A simple dated checklist keeps the family inside each IPA, issuance, registration and delivery window.
