Prepare and retain the YA 2026 Form C-S tax computation, supporting schedules and source records even when attachments are not filed.
A YA 2026 Form C-S filing may not require the company to upload its financial statements and tax computation, but the company must still prepare and retain those records. An empty attachment field does not permit filing from the profit figure alone. The YA 2026 Form C-S schedules should explain every material tax adjustment and answer a later IRAS request.
Confirm the return route
Check the current eligibility conditions for Form C-S, Form C-S Lite and Form C against the company’s revenue, income, claims and other facts. Record the conclusion and source date. The YA 2026 return-choice guide provides a practical comparison, while the current IRAS page remains controlling.
Do not choose the shorter return merely because the portal makes it available. Changes in claims, foreign income, incentives or other matters can affect the appropriate route. Escalate uncertain tax treatment before filing.
Freeze the accounting source
Save the final trial balance, financial statements, general ledger and reconciliation to the approved accounts. Record the accounting period and any post-closing entries. Each tax schedule should link back to a stable account code and amount.
If directors amend the accounts after the computation begins, issue a new version and refresh affected schedules. Do not overwrite the earlier source without a change record. Reconcile every filing figure to the approved accounts to avoid unnecessary review work.
Prepare the tax computation
Start with accounting profit or loss and list additions, deductions, capital allowances, donations, losses, exemptions and credits in a logical sequence. Give every line a schedule reference. State the tax treatment, amount, preparer and reviewer.
The IRAS filing guidance says Form C-S filers must prepare financial statements, a tax computation and supporting schedules. Keep them even where the filing process does not request them with the return.
Build adjustment schedules
Create schedules for depreciation and capital allowances, private or non-business expenses, provisions, legal and professional fees, repairs, interest, related-party items, foreign income and other material adjustments relevant to the company. Attach ledger detail and source documents selectively.
Explain judgemental items in plain language. Give a reviewer enough information to understand the nature of the expense, the rule and any apportionment. Avoid unexplained labels such as non-deductible or tax adjustment when the underlying decision matters.
Reconcile losses and allowances
Roll forward unutilised losses, capital allowances and donations from the prior assessment. Reconcile amounts used, transferred, carried back or carried forward. Check ownership and business-continuity conditions where relevant and obtain advice for reorganisations.
For fixed assets, reconcile additions, disposals, private use and claims to the asset register and invoices. If the company needs a section 19B writing-down allowance declaration, follow the current filing instruction rather than assuming the retained file alone suffices.
Map the YA 2026 Form C-S schedules
For each material field in the return, record the source schedule and amount. For each schedule total, identify the return field or reason it is retained only. This two-way map catches transcription errors and figures left behind after a late change.
Have a second person compare the final portal values with the approved computation before submission. Preserve evidence of the review without placing passwords, authentication codes or unnecessary personal data in the tax file.
Retain records for the required period
The IRAS record-keeping requirements require companies to retain source documents, accounting records, schedules, bank statements and related business records for at least five years from the relevant Year of Assessment. Use a destruction date that accounts for open matters and other legal obligations.
Store the file with controlled access, durable naming and an index. Keep invoices, agreements and correspondence in their appropriate secure locations and reference them from the schedule. Test that records remain readable after accounting or document systems change.
Close the YA 2026 filing
Save the official submission acknowledgement, filed values and any payment or assessment records. If the portal gives an uncertain response, check the official filing status before trying again. A local screenshot alone does not prove acceptance.
Record subsequent IRAS queries, amendments and final outcomes against the same index. Update the retained computation when an official change affects the filed position, preserving the original and revised versions. That history lets the next-year preparer understand the opening balances.
Prepare for an IRAS query
Create a short index that identifies the computation, each supporting schedule, source ledger, key agreement and responsible employee or adviser. Note each record location and access restriction. Test retrieval using two material return figures. Staff should answer a request without rebuilding the computation or searching an individual employee’s mailbox.
For estimates or judgemental treatments, retain the facts available at filing and the basis for the conclusion. Add later information as a dated note and preserve the historical file. If the company discovers an error, assess the correction process promptly with appropriate advice. A complete retained file makes that assessment faster and helps distinguish a genuine new fact from a filing mistake.
Carry forward the right opening figures
Prepare a one-page handover for YA 2027 showing losses, allowances, donations, fixed-asset pools, prior-year adjustments and unresolved correspondence. Link each opening amount to the retained YA 2026 schedule and official outcome.
Assign the handover to the next preparer before archiving the file. This avoids re-creating balances from the prior return and helps the preparer catch an amended assessment or late adjustment in the following computation.
The YA 2026 Form C-S schedules file is the evidence behind a short return. Preparing it before submission improves accuracy now and gives the company a coherent response if IRAS later asks how a filed figure was calculated.
